Stone Foundation

Stone Foundation
Main Stage - Friday

It's been a strange old journey really from playing half empty bars to sold out arenas supporting the Specials and it's still unfolding. It's hard to look back as we are always too busy looking forward and it sometimes seems of no real significance anyway. What I can tell you is that we have always believed it, lived it, breathed it, dreamed it. Right from the off.

The Beat

The Beat Photo

The Beat
Main Stage - Friday

Formed in the working class suburbs of industrial Birminghamin England in 1978 The Beat arose at a time of high unemployment and social upheaval. From the outset the band offered messages of hope and peace with an insight into sociopolitical topics would later alongside The Specials see them heralded as forerunners of the whole 2-Tone Ska movement. After numerous offers to return to the stage The Beat returned in 2003 for a sell out show at The Royal Festival Hall with the inclusion of Ranking Jnr taking vocal duties to an accolade of critical acclaim.

Ruts DC

Ruts DC Photo

Ruts DC
Main Stage - Saturday

The Ruts DC were formed in 1981 by the rhythm section and guitarist of The Ruts. The Ruts had had three whirlwind years of success and much critical acclaim and were without doubt the best of the original punks who dubbed it up! When tragedy struck and the band split it wasn’t long before the booming rhythm section of Dave Ruffy and John’Segs’Jennings came forward with The Ruts DC.

Ruffy, Segs and Seamus have played with and produced for some the very best of all time which says it all really – the return of The Ruts DC ,very exciting and will be a real treat to hear and see.

Kings Sounds

King Sounds from the Israelites
Main Stage - Saturday

Born and raised in Jamaica, King Sounds first foray into the music business was when he danced to Ska music in talent shows on the island.

He recorded his first record at King Tubby’s Studio under the supervision of Bunny Lee and John Holt. A rendition of Jackie Opel & Doreen Schaffer’s ‘Welcome You Back Home’. He came to the UK in 1964 when he was simply known as Sounds and was given the name ‘King’ Sounds by the late Alton Ellis who was impressed by his performance as Master of Ceremonies at one of his shows.
In 1975, Sounds made his first British recording at Chalk Farm studio in North London with ‘Rock And Roll Lullaby’ which is now known as ‘Reggae Rock Lullaby’ and included on the Anthology set. The song was backed by Cimarons Band and issued on the Feel Good Record Label.

The following year he help found the Grove Music Collection based in Ladbroke Grove together with Aswad’s Manager Mikey Campbell and for the next decade the pair built an impressive catalogue of recordings, not just King Sounds but also of other Grove musicians like Brimstone, Sons of Jah and Aswad, plus a slew of releases from Jamaican artists such as Yabby You, Glen Brown, Ras Ibuna, Tommy McCook, Trinity, Judy Mowatt, BB Seaton and others.

Pier Pressure

A mix of original 60s Rocksteady and Ska blended with some classic Soul tunes.

Pier Pressure have been together, first as a 7 Piece and then as an 8 piece since August 2011. We come from a range of musical backgrounds, be it from Reggae, Soul, concert orchestras, pop bands etc. Our common interest is classic 60s Rocksteady and Ska, and over the last few months have been building a repertoire of over 50 songs, playing frequently in and around the Worthing area and at the 2013 BWM Rally, gaining loyal and dedicated support. We promise you will have fun......either cheering or jeering!

Big 10

Big 10 Photo

Big Ten
Main Stage - Saturday

Big 10 were formed in 1999 by Jason and Andy Periss. Realising that it was getting harder and harder to hear the music they love live, they formed Big 10. The ambition was to create the mist dynamic and exciting Ska tribute to their heroes for all the fellow fans out there.

Renowned for a huge Ska sound, entertaining stage antics and a loyal following, Big 10 are one of the most popular tribute acts in the south east. With 8-10 musicians on stage at gigs, a brass section and 2-3 singers, a Big 10 performance is a real treat for the senses.

Keep on skanking!!!
